WORKING WITH DG ECHO AS AN INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATION | 2021 - 2027
THE FAFA
Many agencies of the UN are grouped together under an umbrella-style framework agreement referred to as the Financial and Administrative Framework Agreement between the United Nations and the European Union (FAFA).
The FAFA is the ruling document governing the cooperation between the UN and the Commission.
 
The FAFA establishes the overall legal framework applicable to all agreements between the Commission and the UN Agencies. Its articles define the objectives, principles and the modality of cooperation between the two parties and the European Commission's role connected to the evaluation and verification of the Actions.
It was signed in 2003 and since then it has been adapted twice, in 2014 and 2018.
 
All signatory parties are enlisted in the Annex to the FAFA. Among those, DG ECHO is currently mainly working with:

- IOM - International Organization for Migration
- OCHA - Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
- OHCHR - Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
